Kolkata street, India

My first photo entry. Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is a city drawing itself out of great economic hardship resulting from the partition of India in 1947. There are therefore a number of large, quite modern buildings, as in the photo, that have heavily decayed. It is also one of the few places in India where the auto rickshaws are outnumbered by Ambassador taxis.

The centre of the city was something of a surprise as the architecture comes from the Raj period, and therefore resembles the older buildings in central Manchester.
